Mini-Kit ‘Optics’

Fundamentals of Optics from Light Propagation to Image Formation

Grade level: 3–8
Number of students: 1 working group
Use: Experiments in one working group or demonstration experiments

The Mini-Kit ‘Optics’ contains materials for 15 fundamental experiments in optics. The experiments cover light propagation, shadow formation, reflection and refraction as well as image formation using mirrors and converging lenses.

Further experiments demonstrate the function of the eye and corrective lenses as well as the basic principles of a camera, slide projector, astronomical telescope and microscope. The decomposition of light is also included in the series of experiments.

The kit includes a projection box, flashlight with lamp holder, batteries, slit aperture, lenses, screens and a shadow rod. A profile rail serves as an optical bench and allows the optical elements to be positioned for different experimental setups. Instructions support the experiments.

The picture shows a red toolbox containing various experimental equipment. These include lenses with different focal lengths, a flashlight, batteries and other materials for scientific experiments.
