Students kit EcoLabBox
Investigating Water and Soil Quality Using Key Environmental Parameters
Age: 10–16 years
Use: Student investigations of water and soil quality, chemical environmental parameters and biological indicator organisms, as well as interdisciplinary science activities
With the Students kit EcoLabBox, students investigate important properties of water and soil using practical analytical methods. The kit is suitable for environmental investigations in the classroom and enables both chemical measurements and biological investigations, including the identification of indicator organisms.
For water samples, students can determine pH, ammonium, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate and water hardness. This allows samples from different bodies of water to be analysed and their measured values compared.
Soil samples from gardens, agricultural land and forests can also be analysed. Using the included extraction solutions, students can determine pH, nitrate, phosphate and ammonium and examine these values in relation to the nutrient and fertiliser content of the soil.
The student handbook is designed for learners aged 10–16 and contains 45 investigations with explanatory texts, illustrations, worksheets and practical guidance. An introduction to measurement techniques and investigations of food and household products complement the water and soil analyses.
All included reagents are classified in water hazard class 0. Equipment and reagents can be reordered individually.
